Charity Night 2011
Dear Members & Friends
On the 29th October 2011 we had The Captains Charity Day and it was decided to donate the proceeds between The Lymphoma Support Group Bury and The Christies Cancer Research, both of which are very close to our hearts.
The response was absolutely tremendous, thanks to the support of our golf members, families, friends and lots of other sponsors who donated items for the raffle and auctions.
The evening was a fantastic Halloween fancy dress theme with a DJ that lightened the mood and got everyone dancing nice and early.
Sandra, Carmel and their staff did a great job on the night with the food and bar.
This letter is to let everyone know we realised in total the fabulous amount of £6,216.00.
Thanks again to everyone and hope these charities go from strength to strength.
Yours Sincerely
Ray Deacon

HEALTH & SAFETY NOTICE
02/11/2011
Dear Members
During the winter months i.e. November to April (Captains Drive In), it is recommended that you change your spikes from soft spikes to metal or other types of spikes of the such a material that is conducive with winter golf ground conditions. In doing so, this will offer you more stability and safety during your play.
It is also important that you maintain your spikes for the duration of the season. If you are unsure as to what spikes to fit please contact your club Professional.

Stop Press 10th August. Fantastic article in the 9th August edition of the Manchester Evening News. See / open attachment below marked "George Glass Article"

Brookdale Golf Club was delighted to host a celebration of VJ Day and a tribute to the life of our much loved and respected former secretary George Glass and his wife Gladys.
The day was a tremendous success, with fantastic 1940's period be entertainment, 1940's vehicles, costumes and food.
Our very special guest was Sergeant George Glass and his good lady Gladys.
Vice Captain Chris Gleave hosted and arranged the day and told the incredible and inspiring tale of Sergeant Glass, how Professor Cruickshank twice saved his life and rescued him from the the Burma railway, his 3 and a half years in the Japanese PoW camps, how they met up after the war, the Professor's life as a world renown specialist in tropical disease and George as a member for over 50 years and another 20 odd years as secretary!
The club house was packed with all ages from 9 months to 97 years!
See below and click on the images to see a library of pictures from one of the most wonderful, inspiring and emotional days seen at Brookdale Golf Club in many a long year.
Many thanks from everyone who attended to Chris Gleave who did a tremendous job and congratulations to George and Gladys.

Congratulations to young Joe Brice, who at just turned 18 years old, turned in a very creditable performance in the Nelson Trophy; one of the Lancashire's most prestigous Senior Open Competitions held on 6th and 7th August at Nelson Golf Club, Briarfield Lancashire.
Joe lead the field after the first day with a 73, but was sadly pipped to 3rd place at the finish. Never the less, he still brought home a very steady 74.

Well done Joe, keep up the good work and good luck with your next assault on the Senior Scratch Open at Astbury Golf Club on Tuesday 9th August. A senior Scratch open played over 36 holes.

A belated well done and congratulations to Matt Hampson, who carried off this year's Captain's Final competition, Brookdale Golf Club's most prestigous prize.
Matt won it on Saturday 23rd July with a tremendous first round 61 and followed it up with a gutsy 75 in deteriorating conditions to hold on for a 136 Net over the 36 holes. He was followed home by Steve Boyle who and John Somers, each with 138 and 139 Net respectively.
Matt, witnessed by his friends and family, was presented with his prize at the after competition evening function by the Captain of Brookdale Golf Club, Mr. Raymond Deacon.
Congratulations once again to Matty. And special thanks for all those who backed him to such generous odds in the Mr. Backit Bellis's book.
Have a look at the pictures of Matty with Mr. Captain. (More pictures of Chris with his Daughter on the member's pages)

After a very busy winter and spring, the brand new golf course green machinery that arrived at Brookdale Golf Club on 29th June 2011, will now be seen out and about carrying out their summer duties on the club course.
Steven Boyle, Director in charge of Greens and Head Green Keeper Derek Crewe and his staff were delighted to take delivery and are extremely optimistic about the improvements that the new mowers and tractors will make to the course.
Here Derek and his colleagues are pictured getting to grips and eager to get started.
